Report: Arsenal likely to shelve plans to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich

Arsenal will not be pursuing a January deal for Norwich City midfielder, Emi Buendia, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Norwich’s apparent asking price of around £40m, coupled with Buendia’s desire to stay put of the immediate time period, mean a deal is getting harder and harder for Arsenal to pursue.

Buendia has emerged as a target for the Gunners in recent times, thanks, in part, to his fine form for the Canaries this term.

The Argentinian is seen as a potential option to help Arsenal’s creativity issues, although the emergence of Emile Smith-Rowe in recent weeks has lifted that burden a tad.

Buendia impressed last season despite Norwich being relegated and has once again found top form this term, netting seven times and providing a further six already.

No rush here, a summer move might make more sense – TBR View

Smith-Rowe’s emergence really has given Mikel Arteta breathing room and there’s now no immediate rush for the Arsenal boss to make his move in the market.

Of course, if he could sign Buendia then it would be a good piece of business and improve his squad. But Norwich are, rightfully, demanding a mammoth sum for their man.

The summer might represent a better chance for Arsenal, especially if the Canaries aren’t promoted and are forced into selling off their prized assets anyway.
