Arsenal are amongst the clubs interested in signing Victor Osimhen from Lille, with French outlet Le Quotidien du Foot suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United also want the forward.
The Gunners will be hoping that they can replicate last summer’s move for Nicolas Pepe by luring a young attacker from Lille to the Emirates.
However, they are clearly not going to have a clear run to his signature.
According to Le Quotidien du Foot, many of Europe’s biggest clubs want the 21-year-old, who could cost more than Pepe did. The report suggests that Lille could receive up to £89 million for the starlet.
Le Quotidien du Foot claims that the Gunners, Spurs and Manchester United are joined by several others, including Real Madrid and Manchester City.
TBR View – Arsenal have opportunity to right 2016 wrong
Osimhen’s form will have come as little surprise to Arsenal. The youngster has scored 13 goals in Ligue 1 this season, while also providing four assists.
But had events back in 2016 played out differently, the Nigeria international may have already been a key part of the Gunners’ lineup by now.
Osimhen told BBC Sport four years ago that he opted to join Wolfsburg ahead of Arsenal, insisting that the Bundesliga outfit was the best club for him.
He did however, admit that he was honoured to attract their attention.
So it will be very interesting to see whether he feels that now is the right time to join the Gunners.
The club look to be moving in the right direction under Mikel Arteta. And you could understand if the young attacker felt differently to the last time the Gunners came calling.
