Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign coveted Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are one of several teams interested in the French star, who has been in very impressive form for the Ligue 1 outfit in 2019/20 so far.

The U21 international is ‘likely’ to be sold this month with Real Madrid and Valencia also interested, as well as Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea.

Sky add Soumare – valued at around £43 million (buzzsport.fr) – could be sold within the next 10 days, although the club would like to keep hold of him for the upcoming clash with Paris Saint-Germain on January 26.

Box-to-box star Soumare has previously drawn comparisons to compatriot Paul Pogba.

TBR’s view – Soumare would be a fantastic Arsenal signing

Arsenal fans should be excited about links to Soumare, as currently their midfield lacks mobility.

The likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka and, to a lesser extent Lucas Torreira, aren’t known for how they get about the pitch.

The Gunners signing someone like Soumare would totally reinvigorate their midfield. He could be their own version of Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele who, incidentally, he ‘dominated’ last season according to Lille owner Gerard Lopez (La Voix Du Nord).

6ft 2in Soumare has the ability to carry the ball between the lines and be a driving force – something Arsenal have lacked for a while.

Mikel Arteta should be hailed if he manages to somehow seal the deal ahead of the likes of Chelsea, United and Real.
