Report: Arsenal interested in Toulouse winger Fares Chaibi

Arsenal are interested in Toulouse attacking midfielder Fares Chaibi, with Foot Mercato reporting that the Gunners scouted the 19-year-old in a recent Ligue 1 appearance.

Chaibi went into this season still awaiting the chance to make his professional debut. But he has quickly established himself in the side, scoring two goals and contributing four assists in the top-flight.

He is already attracting a lot of attention. Foot Mercato reports that Sevilla want the French-born starlet. But it is also claimed that Arsenal are very keen on the teenager.

In fact, Foot Mercato reports that Arsenal had scouts in attendance for Toulouse’s clash with Strasbourg last month.

Obviously, Chaibi has not been playing at the highest level for that long. But he has certainly managed to make an impact in that time.

He is not someone who necessarily sees a lot of the ball. But when he does receive possession, he tends to make something happen.

He also works incredibly hard on the defensive side of the game, making plenty of tackles and interceptions. And he can play in a number of positions. So he would certainly be the kind of player who would suit Arsenal’s style under Mikel Arteta.

In fact, FBRef lists Gabriel Martinelli and Raphinha as two of the players who are similar to Chaibi. Clearly, that is an incredibly exciting thought given that he would surely cost nothing like the same amount as those two players.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal do make a move in January.

The Gunners have been building something incredibly special. And they will be wary of deviating from their current plan.

However, there is no question that they have an amazing opportunity this season. And with that, Edu and Arteta must be tempted to focus on proven players to boost their hopes of getting across the line in the Premier League.

But if they feel that signing Chaibi will not impact their other plans, perhaps they will seriously consider a move.
