Arsenal have reportedly added RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams to their list of summer targets.

According to the Athletic, the 14-time USA international is an appealing player for the Gunners. Adams can play right-back and central midfield, two positions the 22-year-old has featured at for both club and country.

Arsenal are expected to sign both a right-back and central midfielder this summer. Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi are all likely to leave as reported by Football London.

Arsenal could miss out on Tyler Adams this summer

It could be a difficult transfer to complete, however. Leipzig have already lost two key players this summer in the form of Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate. As per the report, the east German side could be reluctant to lose another star man in Adams. Last season the midfielder made 37 appearances in all competitions.

The Gunners could also miss out on Adams with Jesse Marsch will be taking over as Leipzig head coach this summer.

The former RB Salzburg boss was key to the American midfielder breaking through at New York Red Bulls in 2016, where the youngster played regularly for the MLS franchise.

‘Shades of Lahm’

Compared to former Germany captain Philipp Lahm by the Athletic, Adams is a unique player in the current climate of football.

The American terrier is extremely versatile, able to operate in multiple roles as both a midfielder and as a fullback.

And this adaptability would be a major bonus for the Gunners. As per the Athletic, Adams would be an ideal fit to Mikel Arteta’s inverted system on the wings where fullbacks tend to cut in when transitioning into attack.

With Bellerin and multiple midfielders likely to leave this summer, Adams would be an impressive recruitment should the Gunners be able to sign him from Leipzig, who might be reluctant given who the club have already lost this window.
