Arsenal hope that they will be able to agree a new contract with Reiss Nelson before loaning the starlet out this season, according to a report from The Sun.
Nelson has been the subject of speculation throughout the summer. He went into this campaign having only made two substitute appearances for the Gunners in the Premier League last term.

But it does appear that he is indeed in Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans at the Emirates.
The 21-year-old came off the bench in Friday’s clash with Brentford. And Arsenal are now hoping that they can get him to commit to staying at the Emirates.

According to The Sun, the Gunners want to agree a new contract with the wide-man. They will then loan him out, with Crystal Palace keen.
Arsenal learning from experience with decision to offer Reiss Nelson fresh contract
As things stand, Nelson’s current deal – worth £50,000-a-week – has two years left to run.
They have left themselves in tricky positions this summer. Both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have reached the final years of their terms. And that does not appear to have done Arsenal any favours.
So perhaps they are wary of letting that happen with Nelson ahead of next year.
Gunners fans may be divided as club prepare for talks with 21-year-old
Nelson looks to have a lot of potential. And should he impress out on loan, supporters will feel that agreeing a new contract was a masterstroke.
But there is plenty of competition in those positions at the Emirates. So some may wonder whether handing out a long-term deal is the right move.
It may be that Arsenal are not attracting the kind of offers to consider selling permanently this summer, or Arteta could be convinced that he will step up in the future.
But it does seem intriguing to offer Nelson fresh terms at a time when he has seemingly struggled to kick on.
