Italian site Il Milanista claim that Arsenal have tabled a contract offer to sign AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu – but they are not alone, with Chelsea also said to have handed the midfielder a new deal ahead of the summer.
Calhanoglu, 27, has entered the final few weeks of his contract at AC Milan – but the Italian giants are desperate to keep their number 10, who has had a hand in 19 goals this season. Scoring eight, he has also created 11 goals.
A 55-time Turkey international, Calhanoglu burst onto the scene in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg but then moved to Milan in the summer of 2017 and has since clocked up 166 appearances for the Italian outfit.
That time is drawing to a close despite Milan wanting to keep him. He wants a figure of £96,000 a week, which Milan are close to offering. It is said the offers from Arsenal and Chelsea are also beneath that figure.
TBR’s view – Calhanoglu would be perfect for Arsenal
A move to Chelsea would see Calhanoglu face competition from the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech and more. But at Arsenal, he would start most weeks – especially if the Gunners do not sign Martin Odegaard.
He would be perfect for the Gunners and available on a free transfer, it is an absolute no-brainer to land his signature this summer. Arsenal need to bite the bullet and match his wage demands to see off Chelsea and Milan.
