Report: Arsenal have no plans to offer extension to Arteta favourite

Arsenal currently have no plans to offer a new contract to Mohamed Elneny, according to a report by The Athletic.

The Egyptian was a surprise package during the 2020/21 campaign. He made 41 appearances for the club under Mikel Arteta.

His inclusion caught many supporters off guard, although it seems as though he could soon be on his way out.

Elneny has just one year left on his contract. Furthermore, Arsenal are eyeing midfield signings this summer and that could force him down the pecking order.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

The man with 79 caps for Egypt has been at Arsenal since 2016 when he checked in from Basel.

In 2019 he joined Besiktas on loan and were in not for a financial crisis, he might have signed for the Turkish side last summer.

The 28-year-old has played 130 times for the Gunners and was largely decent when called upon during 2020/21.

New recruits could be bad news for him though. Arsenal have been linked with both Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma, although Granit Xhaka is set to leave.

It will be interesting to see what happens next with Elneny.

If the club has no plans to offer him a new deal then it might be wise to try and offload him this summer.

Arsenal will have one final chance to get a fee for the player and after a strong season, now seems like a perfect moment.

Arsenal have to deem Elneny surplus

Enough is enough. Not qualifying for Europe needs to have given Arsenal a huge wake up call ahead of their summer recruitment drive.

Elneny might have done pretty well last season but the Gunners have to stop settling for mediocre players.

Some of the links so far this summer have been positive. In order to sign them, however, they might need to offload some players.

Xhaka is heading to Roma and Elneny shouldn’t be far behind him out of the Arsenal exit.

It may sound harsh but for the Gunners to make waves in the Premier League again, they can’t keep trusting the likes of Elneny.

The time has come to get rid of the £50,000-a-week player.
