Report: Arsenal have made 'the most compelling' offer to 'incredible' midfield target

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Leicester’s Youri Tielemans in recent months.

And with the transfer window now open, speculation linking the Gunners and the 25-year-old has intensified.

In May, Fabrizio Romano claimed Arsenal had “opened direct contacts” for potentially signing Tielemans.

Now, The Athletic has reported that the Foxes and Belgium star is one of Arsenal’s two summer transfer priorities.

The Gunners want to bring in a new central midfielder and a new centre-forward.

Gabriel Jesus is reportedly Arsenal’s primary target up front.

Regarding Tielemans, The Athletic claims that the Gunners ‘still consider themselves to be in a strong position’.

The expectation is that the player will leave Leicester this summer, added the report.

And to date, Arsenal have apparently ‘presented the player with the most compelling proposition’.

Tielemans had hoped to play in the Champions League next term, but he ‘no longer considers that a necessity’.

The Athletic adds that Arsenal envisage Tielemans playing as a left-sided central midfielder, as he did for Belgium against Poland.

And as with Albert Sambi Lokonga, the Gunners ‘have also used their close ties with the Belgium international set-up to carry out extensive background checks’ on Tielemans.

“You have to listen to other opportunities”

Tielemans, who Brendan Rodgers has deemed “one of Europe’s top midfielders”, left the door open on a summer move earlier.

“(Leaving) is not out of the question,” the Leicester Mercury quoted Tielemans as saying. “But I can also stay.

“I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Over the next few weeks, things should be a bit clearer, but Tielemans to Arsenal certainly appears to be going in the right direction.

The £40million-rated Belgian, branded as an “incredible talent” by Michael Dawson, ticks so many boxes for Arteta.
