Report: Arsenal have asked about signing player with £343m release clause, he'll cost a lot less
Arsenal have enquired about Sergino Dest at Barcelona as they look for a right-back, AS Sport say.
Arsenal are expected to sell Hector Bellerin this summer, which means that there is a gap in their squad.
Arsenal apparently immediately moved for Dest and tested the player.
But the problem with completing a transfer looks like being two-fold right now.
Dest is said to have told Arsenal that he wants to stay with Barcelona.
And the American full-back’s value has apparently risen significantly after his excellent season at the Nou Camp.
Dest actually has a release clause in his contract worth £343 million (Bleacher Report).
But thankfully for Arsenal, AS say that Barca would want £25 million for the right-back, which could put him at the top end of Arsenal’s price range.
Bellerin out, Dest in?
Arsenal are looking at raising £20 million for Bellerin (CBS), but whether the Gunners board will be willing to make up the difference between that and Barca’s asking price for Dest is up for debate.
Arsenal are already investing heavily this summer, with Ben White set to become the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Dest would bring pace and attacking quality to Arsenal, and at the age of 20 he certainly would fit the mould of the player that Arteta is looking for.
Arsenal seem to be looking at players who can develop in the years ahead, with a crop of exciting youngsters already in place at the Emirates Stadium.
But whether Arsenal would be able to convince Dest to leave Barca looks questionable and at the moment the transfer appears to have little chance of taking place, despite the Gunners’ alleged interest.
