Report: Arsenal getting worried club will reject their bid to sign ‘incredible’ £20m star in January
Arsenal are now getting worried that Leicester City will reject their bid to sign Youri Tielemans in January, according to 90 Min.
The Gunners will be aiming to take full advantage of the January transfer window in order to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s men were heavily linked with a move for a new midfielder over the summer but failed with a deadline day bid for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.
They’ve been heavily linked with a move for Tielemans, with his contract is set to expire at the end of the season. The Mirror reported yesterday that Leicester are bracing themselves for an Arsenal bid for the 25-year-old next month.
Now, in the latest update it seems that Arsenal are worried the Foxes could reject their approaches for the ‘excellent’ midfielder in January.
Arsenal worried about Tielemans
90 Min reports that Arsenal will try to sign Tielemans next month but they believe a free transfer swoop next summer is ‘most likely’.
The Gunners want to bring the Belgian midfielder to north London as soon as possible and will try to convince Brendan Rodgers’ men to allow him to move.
But there are fears at the Emirates Stadium that Leicester will refuse to let Tielemans go as they aim to stay in the Premier League.
Arsenal are in need of a new midfielder, with Arteta alarmingly short in the position at the moment.
Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey have formed an outstanding partnership in the middle of the park but Arteta’s back-up options are nowhere near the same quality.
Of course, Arsenal’s plans for the January window may have changed over the past two weeks after Gabriel Jesus picked up an injury at the World Cup. While they will need to target a striker, they can’t afford to ignore their lack of depth in midfield.
It was a massive surprise that Arsenal didn’t sign Tielemans over the summer after being heavily linked to the midfielder. The £20 million playmaker seems like a perfect fit for Arteta’s midfield and they should do everything within their power to convince Leicester to let him leave next month.
