Arsenal transfer: Gunners eye one-time France international to replace strike duo
Arsenal are considering a move for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea, if they can offload either Alexandre Lacazette or Eddie Nketiah.
According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners are keen to shake up their strike force and want to strengthen.
Lacazette was Arsenal’s top scorer last season but he will enter the final year of his contract. Nketiah has never really been in favour since Mikel Arteta arrived.
If the club can shift one of the two centre forwards, their attention will turn towards the Bundesliga for a replacement.
The 28-year-old scored 12 goals last season and also claimed five assists for the team too.
Plea has one cap for France and would be an interesting player for Arsenal to sign during the summer.
He has made 107 appearances for the German team in total, scoring 37 goals and claiming 20 assists.
Plea could cost just £15 million this summer and that would represent a decent piece of business.
Lacazette and Nketiah could both raise more money than that sum and Arsenal could be left in profit.
The Gunners finished eighth during 2020/21 and won’t have European football on the agenda next season.
As a result, it will be interesting to see what sort of players Arsenal can attract during the summer transfer window.
Plea to Arsenal could be shrewd deal
The striker brings more to the table than just goals and his all-action style could help Arsenal in the final third.
He is 28 though so perhaps a long-term striker will need to be added as well.
Plea would probably relish the chance to play for a Premier League club and likely earn more money at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal weren’t good enough on occasions last season and the challenge for Arteta is clear.
He has to start improving and Plea might be just the man to help him achieve his goals.
