Report: Arsenal expect to have Thomas Partey back in three weeks’ time

Arsenal have confirmed that they could have Thomas Partey back in action in as little as three weeks, with his injury not quite as bad as it could have been.

A statement from the Gunners’ official website confirmed that Partey had sustained ankle ligament damage against Chelsea in pre-season. However, it’s not as bad as some first feared when the Ghanaian first left the field.

It means that Arsenal – potentially anyway – could have Partey back in the frame to play against Manchester City at the end of August. It means the midfielder powerhouse missing just the clashes with Brentford and Chelsea, before hopefully being back.

Partey was a big money signing for Mikel Arteta last summer. His first season began well, before a number of niggling injuries meant the former Atletico man never quite hit his very best form.

Arteta will see Partey as key for this season. As yet, the Gunners have failed to add the sort of quality they wanted in central midfield. Albert Lokonga has arrived, but he is expected to deliver more in the future.

Partey being back a huge boost for Arsenal

Some Arsenal fans will have feared the worst when Partey picked up that injury against Chelsea. Given his record last season, it was easy to assume he might be out for a while.

But the couple of weeks, or three maximum, is not the end of the world.

If Arsenal can have him back for the clash with City, then it gives them a nice timely boost. Partey will be needed for that game, there is no question about it.
