Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka might be sold in January, The Mirror reports.
Xhaka is not in Arsenal’s squad to play Vitoria tonight as Unai Emery continues to freeze him out. He has had his captaincy stripped and now he might be sold in the January window.
This all stems from Xhaka’s emotions boiling over in a recent match. The Switzerland midfielder was substituted against Crystal Palace and this decision was met with cheers from the Arsenal crowd.
Xhaka has been on the receiving end of a barrage of social media criticism in recent weeks. As he walked off, he swore at the crowd, ripped his shirt off and stormed down the tunnel. This made Lucas Torreira cry.
Since then, Xhaka has not played a single game. The 27-year-old, who has racked up nearly 150 appearances for the Gunners, has been out of the squad. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken the skipper’s armband for now.
Xhaka reportedly wants an Arsenal recall and is working hard. But Emery is ready to let him leave this winter. Xhaka could be made available for transfer in the January transfer window.
Selling Xhaka in January might be a mutually beneficial arrangement. After what has happened, Arsenal fans might not welcome him back into the team.
For the sake of his own career, a January exit might be wise. He can get a fresh start elsewhere and begin a new relationship with a new set of fans.
