Arsenal could be about to lose out in the race to land Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey, with reports from Ghanasoccernet claiming the Ghana star is set for a new contract.
The news could represent a bitter blow to Mikel Arteta and the Gunners, who have courted Partey for much of the summer already.

However, despite reports over the last few weeks claiming a move to the PL was getting near, this latest report suggests Partey is set for a ‘bumper’ new deal worth over £120k-a-week. It is also believed Atletico will increase his release clause to just shy of £90m.
This, of course, would more or less rule Arsenal out of the running for the Ghana star. The Gunners won’t be able to afford that sort of fee and if Partey does agree to a new deal, you’d assume he’s intending on staying put.

There is a chance Los Rojosblancos are doing it to protect themselves. However, it could also indicate that Partey has done a u-turn and will now stay in Spain.
Huge blow for Arsenal, they continue to get setbacks and it’s worrying – TBR View
Out of all the players Arsenal have been linked with during the last few weeks and months, the signing of Partey was the one most people deemed likely to happen.
It’s a massive shame as well for the Gunners. They are crying out for a battling type midfielder like Partey and he’d have such a big influence on this up and coming, young Arsenal team.
Mikel Arteta will be hoping to see Partey have another change of heart. He’ll also be desperate for club officials to be on the ball and trying to convince the 27-year-old out of signing new terms in Madrid.
