Arsenal are interested in Southampton full-back Cedric Soares during the January transfer window, and The Telegraph has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur may have a role to play in the Gunners landing their man.
Mikel Arteta is still waiting to make his first signing of the month. But it would not be a surprise if they looked to enjoy a busy end to the window.
The Telegraph reports that Arsenal are looking at making a late move for Cedric, who is out of contract at the end of the season at St Mary’s.
The report notes that the Saints may be looking for less than £6 million for the Portugal international.
It is noted by The Telegraph that Ralph Hasenhuttl may be open to letting Cedric leave this month should he land Kyle Walker-Peters from Spurs.
TBR View – Cedric an intriguing target for Arsenal
It is somewhat surprising that Cedric has found himself onto Arsenal’s radar this month. His availability obviously makes it a less risky move for Arteta. But it is still something of a gamble.
His form has been criticised at times during his spell with the Saints. He has also shown plenty of quality, and he is capable of playing at left-back.
For less than £6 million, he could prove to be a shrewd signing.
But Arsenal fans should probably also be wary that there are likely to be plenty of Saints fans who feel that they would have done the better business should they let him leave and manage to land Walker-Peters from Tottenham.
