Report: Arsenal could lose out on Leon Bailey, Man City and Manchester United both want Bayer Leverkusen star

Arsenal could be set for another beating by Man City, only this time in terms of a new player, as Pep Guardiola reportedly eyes up a move for Bayer Leverkusen winger, Leon Bailey.

Reports from the Daily Mail yesterday claim City and United, along with Chelsea, are monitoring Bailey ahead of making a summer swoop.

Bailey, who is still just 22, is apparently valued at around £40m, could be seen as a cheaper option for the Manchester clubs to Jadon Sancho. Furthermore, for City, they will be in the market for a new left winger, with news that Leroy Sane is set to depart breaking yesterday.

It could well mean another blow for Arsenal in the market, too. The Gunners were linked with a move for Bailey back in March before the global pandemic put a halt on all football proceedings.

With money set to be tight, the Gunners will need to act fast if they wish to bring Bailey in now. It’s assumed that both Manchester clubs can blow Arsenal out of the water in terms of wages, while Chelsea are already spending big.

There seems to be a recurring theme when it comes to Arsenal lately. Every time they are linked with a player, another one of the big boys seems to wade in with their own interest.

This appears to be the case with Leon Bailey, who is, seemingly, a man in demand. It’s not hard to see why, though, given his superb performances in Leverkusen.

The Jamaican has 24 goals in 111 appearances for the German outfit, per Transfermarkt. That’s not too bad for a young winger, with a goal around every 4.5 games.

With so much focus on Kai Havertz, the Gunners will be hoping they can slip under the radar and convince Bailey to move to north London.
