Report: Arsenal could land Albert Sambi Lokonga on the cheap
Arsenal have discovered that they could land reported target Albert Sambi Lokonga for a bargain price during the summer transfer window.
According to Belgian news outlet Nieuwsblad the player could be available for just £13 million when the window reopens.
The 21-year-old finished the 2020/21 campaign as the captain of Anderlecht and is now a wanted man.
Lokonga typically operates as a central midfielder, although he has played in a holding role too.
The Gunners are keen to sign the player this summer and their chances could be good.
He will be out of contract in just a year’s time and hold a long-term interest in the combative performer.
Lokonga has made 78 appearances for the Belgian giants, catching the eye of other European clubs in the process.
He rose through the youth ranks at Anderlecht and made seven appearances in the Under-19 Champions League.
Arsenal will go in search of players during the summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to bolster his ranks.
The Gunners won’t have European football on the table and that could restrict the sort of players they can attract.
Lokongo is on Belgium’s reserve list for Euro 2020 but is still awaiting his his first cap for his country.
Arsenal and Lokonga: A cheaper alternative to Yves Bissouma
Arsenal and other interested parties have been circling for the Brighton man but he could cost £40 million.
That might not allow Arsenal to land their other targets this summer and an alternative may be sought.
Lokonga could be a cheaper alternative and he fits the profile of an Arteta player just nicely.
The Belgian wonderkid has lots of untapped potential and under the Arsenal boss’ wing, he could develop into a top player.
Lokonga would relish a move to the Premier League and at £13 million he would represent a snip.
