Report: Arsenal could get £8m if Nketiah joins an English club
Arsenal could still receive a fee of £8m if Eddie Nketiah leaves on a free transfer next summer, according to talkSPORT.
However, the player would need to join another English club, after which a tribunal would decide what the Gunners are paid.
A tribunal take a number of factors into account before making a decision about a player. Things include age, the status of both sides involved, length of time at the club and more.
The centre-forward has less than a year left on his current contract. He has turned down offers from the Gunners to extend his deal, and the report claims Nketiah could leave on a free.
Nketiah was the subject of transfer interest from Brighton and Crystal Palace over the summer. However, the north Londoners’ demands of £20m put off the Eagles, who turned to Odsonne Edouard for £14m.
However, he is not the only centre-forward Arsenal face losing at the end of his contract.
Alexandre Lacazette has less than 12 months to run and has no intention of signing a new deal.
£8m is a good fee for Arsenal
Stubbornness is all that was in the way of Arsenal fetching a decent price for Nketiah this summer.
A fee in the region of £20m was never realistic, begging questions over the thinking of whoever was demanding it.
With less than a year on his deal, it seems bizarre to be demanding a similar fee to what Joe Willock fetched.
However, £8m is an amount even Arsenal would have thought they would never get for Nketiah.
It allows the Gunners to continue building their squad moving forward.
Targeting youth has been the aim this summer and, while the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White have fetched large sums, £8m is perfect for squad depth. Like Albert Sambi Lokonga, who only cost around £16m.
Should Arsenal have got more than £8m this summer? Yes, probably.
But it seems they could get away with it if talkSPORT’s report proves to be true.
