Arsenal are weighing up making a bid for Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners appear to have enjoyed a positive window. A number of fringe players have departed and a couple of new faces have come in.

But it seems that Mikel Arteta may not be done yet. According to the Mirror, Arsenal are interested in van Aanholt as they look to land a rival for Kieran Tierney.

Cedric Soares has done well in Tierney’s absence. But the Portuguese is a right-back who can play on either flank. And Arteta is seemingly hoping to sign a more natural option in that position.

The Daily Mirror notes that the Dutchman is out of contract in the summer. It is suggested that Palace may be tempted therefore, by the chance to sell the 30-year-old before Monday’s deadline.

Van Aanholt – who earns £55,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has been a good signing for Palace.

As shown by Whoscored.com, he averages 1.2 tackles per games in the Premier League this term. That is the same number as Rob Holding (via Whoscored), who has been hugely impressive lately.

Meanwhile, he averages 1.4 interceptions per game. Dani Ceballos and Mohamed Elneny are the only Arsenal players to do better.

He is also a player who has contributed his fair share of goals at Selhurst Park. The defender has scored 13 times in the top flight since arriving at Palace.

And if the Eagles are open to letting him leave on the cheap, he may not be a terrible addition for the Gunners’ squad by any means.
