Report: Arsenal consider move for striker Moussa Dembele

Arsenal are planning a swoop on Lyon to sign striker Moussa Dembele, according to a report by The Telegraph. Mikel Arteta will plan an overhaul of his squad, with attacking reinforcements necessary.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have been the subject of speculation regarding moves away from the club. As a result, Arteta might need to dip into the transfer market.

The French talisman is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid and is unlikely to earn a reprieve at Lyon. Dembele has found the net just once since joining Los Rojiblancos in January.

He does have a decent goalscoring pedigree, however. He’s scored 45 goals in 108 appearances for the Ligue 1 side and bagged 51 times in 94 outings for Celtic.

Atletico hold an option to sign the player for £30 million but at this stage, it’s not certain whether they will activate the option. Lyon could be willing to do business for around £25 million if Simeone politely declines.

Arsenal are ninth in the Premier League and the 2020/21 campaign won’t be living long in the memory of the club’s supporters.

If Arteta is to continue deep into next season he has to find the winning formula and in order to do that, new players will be required.

TBR View: Dembele could be a shrewd addition for Arsenal

At 24, the Frenchman has plenty of time on his side and he fits the profile of a Gunners signing quite nicely.

Arteta will be in the market for some firepower in the summer and at £25 million, Dembele could prove to be a steal.

A bad spell with Atletico hasn’t made him a bad player and with no European football on the agenda, Arsenal might not be in a position where they can be selective.

As a result, making a move for the £45,000-a-week Dembele could prove an exciting addition for the club’s supporters.
