Report: Arsenal confident of signing Willian from Chelsea

Premier League outfit Arsenal are said to be optimistic over completing a deal to sign Willian, according to ESPN Brazil.

The flamboyant winger is set to leave Chelsea in the summer having failed to agree on an extension to his existing contract.

Willian signed for the Blues in 2013 for £30 million from Anzhi Makhachkala. He has been a solid recruit for Chelsea, scoring 63 goals and registering 62 assists in 339 appearances.

Arsenal will be on the lookout for players to bolster all areas of their squad during the summer.

Mikel Arteta will be desperate to lift the Gunners higher up the league table and Willian could help with that ambition.

Any club who can tempt the 69-cap Brazilain to join their club will be getting one hell of a signing.

At 31, Willian still has a few years left in the tank and his pace, skill and eye for a goal could make him quality at the Emirates Stadium.

Nicolas Pepe has come on leaps and bounds since his arrival and Bukayo Saka looks set for a bright future.

After those two, however, Arsenal do still look a little light out wide. Willian’s presence would see them land a proven top-flight player capable of an instant impact.

The experienced performer won’t come cheap to Arsenal. He is currently paid £138,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge and would probably demand another good contract.

Arsenal fans like to be entertained and after 11 goals and nine assists this season, the Gunners should welcome Willian.

He’d be a signing capable of making an impact from the off and would come in having won several trophies with Chelsea.

Arsenal are perhaps lacking in a leader or two and Willian’s arrival would certainly help the younger players kick on next season.
