Arsenal have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Lyon midfielder, Houssem Aouar, with a report from Calciomercato claiming the French club will not stand in his way of a summer move.
The Italian news outlet reports this as it is claimed Juventus have now emerged as contenders to land the 22-year-old. Aouar has long been a standout player in France and was once again in fine form in Ligue 1 last term.
The Gunners have been credited with holding an interest in the midfielder, too. Back in April, the Metro claimed that Arsenal was among a trio of PL clubs who had been impressed with the Lyon star. Man City and Liverpool were also credited with an interest.
However, while Lyon won’t stand in Aouar’s way of a move, the report from Calciomercato states that will only be the case if Arsenal or other clubs meet the £63m release clause in his contract.
That, then, could prove a sticking point for the Gunners, who are looking to carefully manage their finances this summer.
Aouar is quality and Guardiola loves him, he’d be brilliant in North London – TBR View
As far as midfielders who have everything go, Aouar is right up there with some of the best in Europe. Goals, assists, the ability to run games from the middle, the French star is a brilliant footballer.
Not many impress Pep Guardiola like he has, too. The City boss previously described him as ‘incredible’, which is quite the honour in itself.
Arsenal fans will be dreaming of signing someone like Aouar. And while the £63m tag is a lot, the Gunners could well raise funds through player sales and finally make their move.
