Arsenal are confident French international defender William Saliba will sign a new contract with the club.
90Min report that the Gunners wanted to kickstart talks over tying Saliba down as soon as he came back from his loan at Marseille.
But Saliba did not want to engage at that point because he wanted to wait and see what kind of role he had in Mikel Arteta’s plans.
But Saliba started the opening game of the season against Crystal Palace and helped the Gunners keep a clean sheet en route to a 2-0 win.

Saliba could sign new Arsenal contract
But there is confidence that he will now sign a new deal now that Arteta has shown that he can play an integral role in his side.
Saliba was described as ‘fantastic‘ by Brendan Rodgers ahead of Arsenal’s clash with his Leicester City side at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
And he will hope to string a row of good performances together and keep his place at the heart of the back four.
Saliba will also have one eye on the World Cup later this year, where his country France will be looking to defend their crown.
To get into that squad, he will have to be playing well and regularly for Arsenal and may want his long-term future tied up before then.
On the other hand, if he went to the World Cup and shone, his value could skyrocket, but it seems Arsenal are keen to resolve matters before then.
Arsenal’s board have reached out to Saliba’s agents in recent days and it seems like the situation could progress quickly from here.
