Arsenal are interested in signing Middlesbrough starlet Calum Kavanagh, according to a report from The Sun, but the Gunners face competition from Chelsea for his signature.
Kavanagh has caught the eye with six goals in 13 under-18 Premier League games this season. But it appears that his future at the Riverside Stadium looks uncertain.
The Sun reports that Boro hope to tie him down to a new long-term contract. However, the 16-year-old would prefer to sign a shorter deal that allows him to keep his options somewhat open.
And The Sun has suggested that that has attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, with the latter currently leading the race.
TBR View – Exciting time to join Arsenal or Chelsea for Kavanagh
Kavanagh will surely not find it easy to push for a move away from Middlesbrough. Jonathan Woodgate has used a lot of young players this season, and he may feel that a first-team chance may not be too far away.
But you could certainly see why he may be tempted by the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea.
Both the Gunners and Blues have integrated plenty of young players into the first-team fold this season.
Kavanagh will still need to bide his time unless something bizarre happens. But moving to the Emirates or Stamford Bridge look to be particularly exciting opportunities for a teenager right now.
