Arsenal defender Auston Trusty is nearing a loan move to Birmingham, according to 90Min and the Birmingham Mail.

Back in January, the Gunners secured the signature of the 23-year-old from MLS outfit Colorado Rapids.

However, Trusty has remained on loan with the Rapids, with his loan spell coming to an end on Sunday.

Rather than linking up with Arsenal, the United States youth international will ply his trade with the Blues.

This is to enable him to acclimatise to life in England and English football, claimed the reports.

Apparently, it was always Arsenal’s intention to send Trusty out on loan in 2022-23.

Trusty arrives in England with 115 MLS matches under his belt in playoff and regular-season competition.

The 6ft 3in center-back helped the Rapids finish top of the Western Conference in 2021.

He also enjoyed a spell with the Philadelphia Union prior to signing for the Rapids.

“He’s really driven”

According to the Birmingham Mail, Trusty’s signing ‘was viewed as a show of faith in the partnership between Arsenal and the Rapids, who are both owned by the Kroenkes’.

The outlet also shared quotes from Rapids head coach Robin Fraser, who oversaw the player’s development at the American club.

“Auston’s development since he’s been with us has been incredible,” Fraser is quoted as saying.

“He took a while to get settled with us but he took off when he started getting to grips with things.

“What makes this move so fitting is that he is an incredibly hard worker and he’s really driven.

“From the minute he got here, he knew what he wanted to do, he wanted to get himself overseas. I’m so thrilled for him.”
