Report: Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leicester want Celtic star Odsonne Edouard

Arsenal, Leicester City and Aston Villa are preparing summer bids for Celtic star Odsonne Edouard, according to the Leicester Mercury, via The Scottish Daily Mail (Paper Edition; 26th Feb; back page)

The Frenchman looks set to leave the Hoops at the end of the season and Roma will provide interest from overseas.

Edouard has been at Celtic Park since checking in from PSG in 2018. He has proved prolific during his time in Scotland, scoring 81 goals in 160 appearances.

Rodgers was the man who signed him for the Hoops and that could give Leicester the edge when it comes to the summer.

Celtic did value the player at £40 million back in August, although a fee closer to £20 million could now be enough to tempt the Hoops into a sale.

The 23-year-old has found the net 21 times in all competitions this season, despite a season of struggle for Celtic.

Neil Lennon was recently dismissed as the club’s boss as they prepare to lose their grip on the title to fierce rivals Rangers.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are set to rival Rodgers for Edouard’s signature and both could provide attractive propositions.

The Gunners could be on the market for a striker. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both heavily linked with moves away from North London, leaving just Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the striking department.

Villa are currently above the Gunners in the league and they will have ambitions of Europe themselves.

The £19,500-a-week Edouard could be the perfect signing to kick Dean Smith’s men onto the next level during 2021/22.

Spending £20 million on a player with the goalscoring record that Edouard has would be a quality piece of business.

Of course, he would have to prove himself but with plenty of service, he would be capable of scoring plenty of goals.

Edouard is only 23 and he’d represent a stunning investment for the future for whichever top-flight club takes a chance on him.
