Report: Arsenal are more likely to sign 'world class' player than Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer

Gabriel Jesus is more likely to join Arsenal this summer than his Manchester City teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Zinchenko has been linked with the Gunners, but the Telegraph claim that any potential move is at a very early stage.

Jesus has been mooted in connection with Arsenal too, and Mikel Arteta’s interest in City players is no surprise given his connections with the squad.

The question for both men is whether they want to trade being squad players at a club who can challenge for every trophy going or be a bigger part of Arteta’s Arsenal project.

The report says: “Arsenal are interested in signing Zinchenko from City, with Mikel Arteta keen to raid his former club. Arsenal are also hopeful of signing Gabriel Jesus from City and Zinchenko is regarded as a versatile option who would primarily play in midfield.

The Ukraine international would also provide additional cover at left-back, which has been an occasionally problematic position for Arsenal due to Kieran Tierney’s injury issues.

A potential move for Zinchenko is at a very early stage, however, and is regarded as less likely than Arsenal completing their swoop for Jesus, who is their top target to play in attack.

City would not stand in Zinchenko’s way if he chooses to leave the club this summer, although they would expect a considerable transfer fee for a player who has two years remaining on his contract in Manchester.”

Jesus, who City teammate Ilkay Gundogan has called “world class”, (Goal), has won the Premier League four times, the same as Zinchenko.

There are some who would say that the Brazilian is just below that level of the very best, and City have just brought in someone who is top bracket in Erling Haaland.

But he is a good Premier League player with his best years ahead of him, who works very hard for the team, and the same goes for Zinchenko.

He would be a versatile, technically sound option, but it remains to be seen how much City would demand in terms of a transfer fee.
