Report: Arsenal are considering signing another 'incredible' South American, but have ruled out swap-deal

Arsenal are being mentioned in the same breath as Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo once again, with the Italian club looking to get the Brazilian off the books.

Arthur was linked with Arsenal throughout January and has continued to be a name mentioned when it comes to the Gunners’ transfer business. Indeed, over the weekend it was reported over in Italy that Juventus were hoping Arsenal took Arthur on loan with a view to buying him.

And today, Calciomercato build on that report by claiming that the Gunners are still thinking about a way in which they can make a deal for Arthur work. However, and this is crucial for Arsenal fans, any move for the Brazilian will not involve Gabriel Magalhaes going the other way.

Juventus are known admirers of the Arsenal defender but with Mikel Arteta sure to build his defence around him, Ben White, and William Saliba, the Spaniard would be loathed to lose the former Lille man.

With regards to Arthur, it remains to be seen just how intent Arsenal are on signing him. There does seem to be an element of that ship sailing already, but the reports do keep coming which suggests there is an interest there.

TBR’s View: Hard To See Where Arthur Melo Fits At Arsenal Now

Last season there was a crying need for the Gunners to add a central midfielder like Melo. However, with the likes of Vieira and Zinchenko signed and Xhaka and Partey still around, Arsenal might not need him as much now.

Sure, Arthur has his qualities and would be a useful squad addition. Dani Ceballos springs to mind really, a player who can contribute but won’t have the biggest impact going.

So, while the reports will still mention Arthur to Arsenal, it’s hard to see it happening as things stand right now.
