North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are both reportedly lining up moves for Jerome Boateng, who is set to leave Bayern Munich in the summer.

According to German publication SportBild, Bundesliga champions Bayern have decided that they won’t be extending the defender’s contract, which is set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season.

It is claimed that there will be no contract discussions between the 32-year-old and Bayern about a new deal, meaning he’s set to exit after nine years at the club.

The report explains that Premier League duo Arsenal and Spurs are both waiting in the wings for the 2014 World Cup winner.

Arsenal are credited with interest in the centre-back from last summer and now have him back on their radar, while Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is also believed to be tracking his situation with great interest and the report mentions a move to the United States as a possible option for the player.

TBR’s View:

Boateng has been a serial winner throughout his career at club and international level, which is why he would surely be an attractive signing for most clubs now that he’s set to depart Bayern within the next year.

He’s still a regular starter this season in a Bayern team that are considered by many to be the standout in Europe and he came off the bench last season during the Champions League final win against Paris Saint-Germain.

The German had a brief spell in English football earlier in his career where he was unable to quite make the impact he may have hoped for at Manchester City, but he’s achieved so much since with Bayern and would bring so much elite level experience to either Arsenal or Spurs if they are to follow up their interest.

Aged 32, he would only be a short-term fix if Arsenal or Spurs were t move for him, but Thiago Silva is a perfect example at Chelsea of how these deals can do.
