Spanish outlet ABC de Sevilla has claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have asked Real Madrid about left-back Sergio Reguilon ahead of the summer window – but the north London duo face enormous competition.
Reguilon, 23, has been in excellent form for Sevilla while on loan from Real Madrid this season – having a hand in five goals during his 22 La Liga appearances. However, he was rested throughout Sevilla’s Europa League campaign.
Called up to the Spain squad this season but still uncapped, Reguilon’s future at Real remains in the balance. Marcelo is still first choice on the left side of defence, but the Brazilian could be allowed to end his long stay with the Galacticos this summer.
Reguilon, then, has a decision to make. Look to fight for his place with Marcelo’s future in doubt, or move on with Marca claiming Real value him at just £17.5million. The latest report claims 10 clubs want Reguilon, in total.
Reguilon is renowned for having a training-ground spat with veteran Sergio Ramos, that saw the Madrid skipper apologise in 2018 for lashing out at him – when he was just 21.
The Tweet is translated as: “Although it may not seem like it, they are quite common situations, but it is not an excuse, my reaction should not have been that. We always go full, right, Regui?”
TBR’s view – Tottenham need Reguilon much more than Arsenal
The breakthrough of Bukayo Saka, who looks likely to remain at Arsenal despite his current contract situation, has strengthened Arsenal’s options at left-back. Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac are also options.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are likely to sell Danny Rose in the coming months – while a number of questional performances from Ryan Sessegnon at left-back has proved that he simply is not a defender. Ben Davies is first choice.
Spurs need to give the Wales star competition, and Reguilon for a bargain fee would be top business.
