Report: Arsenal and Newcastle both want to sign 'astonishingly gifted' midfielder with agent working on deal right now

Both Arsenal and Newcastle United are in the mix to try and sign Lazio midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports from Italy.

Reports have suggested that the long-time Manchester United target is on the radar of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is keen to strengthen his squad this summer once more. And backing up those reports further, Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Milinkovic-Savic’s agent is actively working towards a solution.

The report from GDS claims that both Arsenal and Newcastle are potential destinations for the Serbian. His agent is said to be working towards a solution, which could see him sign a new deal in Italy, or attract a bid of over £55m from one of the English clubs mentioned.

Milinkovic-Savic has long been touted as one of the best all-round midfielders in Europe. Described by 90Min as an ‘astonishingly gifted’ midfielder who can get box to box, the Lazio ace does tick boxes for the Gunners and Magpies.

With Arsenal looking for new faces to close the gap to fourth and Newcastle looking to spend money to push themselves closer to the top six, Milinkovic-Savic is a player who’d be welcomed at both stadiums.

TBR’s View: Milinkovic-Savic Is Better Than All Arsenal’s Midfielders

That’s how good the Lazio man is. He has a bit of everything in his game and he is very much like a midfielder from days gone by, rather than being a CDM or CAM.

Milinkovic-Savic can get you a goal, he can put his foot in, and he can get up and down. In terms of midfielders who might be on the market, he is pretty much ideal for anyone.

For Arsenal, he’s exactly what they need. Likewise, Newcastle could see him as a marquee capture. Either way, this is a player who improves things considerably.
