Arsenal have reportedly agreed on a fee with Newcastle United to sell Joe Willock on a permanent basis.

What’s the story?

According to David Ornsteinn in The Athletic, the Gunners have agreed to sell the ace for a price in excess of £20m. Personal terms are still to be agreed on between the player and the Geordies.

Willock has been the Magpies’ number one target throughout this transfer window. Mikel Arteta was open to keeping Willock, however, the fee was too good to turn down in the end.

Steve Bruce was adamant his side were trying ‘as best as we can’ to finalise a move for the Englishman.

Meanwhile, when speaking about the player’s absence from the starting XI for the clash versus Tottenham Hotspur, Arteta said he could only explain when he could.

Letting Willock leave is a mistake from Arsenal, boost for Newcastle

It probably goes without saying, but, letting Willock leave Arsenal is a huge mistake, whilst Newcastle have received a massive boost.

When a player scores for seven consecutive Premier League games, it sort of gives you an idea of his level of quality.

And throw into the mix the Gunners’ lack of goals from midfield, and you have a disastrous decision from the north Londoners.

On the other hand, what a boost for Bruce ahead of the league opener next week.

The 61-year-old has landed the man, who was arguably his best player from January until the end of last season.

His quality will undoubtedly help Callum Wilson, who was isolated at times last campaign.
