According to Record in Portugal, Arsenal and Manchester United are battling to sign Porto midfielder Vitinha this summer.

The 22-year-old is not a complete stranger to English football. He spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers but only played 22 times for Wolves in all competitions.

Vitinha’s move wasn’t made permanent last year and he returned to Porto. He played 47 times in all competitions for the Dragons and had a really good campaign in the middle of the park.

His performances impressed many people, and if the report is to be believed, transfer chiefs at Arsenal and Manchester United both liked what they saw in him.

The summer transfer window is open now, and it’s a massive one for both Arsenal and Manchester United. Both clubs need to get it right in the next two months, and a quality midfielder is a necessity for both managers.

The report claims that Arsenal and Manchester United are in a ‘heated duel’ to sign Vitinha. The two historic English clubs are both keen to bring him in him, and the report even goes on to claim that they’re ready to splash the cash.

Vitinha reportedly has a £34.7 million release clause. It has been claimed that Mikel Arteta and Erik Ten Hag are both ready to trigger that to get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.

The Portugal international, branded as ‘remarkable’ by Deco, will enter the final two years of his contract at the end of this month.

TBR View:

A lot was expected of Vitinha when he joined Wolves on loan a couple of seasons ago. Everybody knew he had the talent, but whether he could come in and dominate the English game was the big question mark,

Sadly, the youngster barely even got a chance. Vitinha started just five league games in the entire campaign for Wolves, which is not enough for anyone to prove their worth.

In the end, Wolves decided he wasn’t worth the money and sent him back. That could now come back to haunt the Wanderers with both Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly keen to sign him.

A little over £34 million is not big money to either club as they aim to get back into the Champions League next season. Vitinha is certainly affordable, but we can’t see him being either club’s first-choice target this summer.
