Report: Arsenal and Liverpool monitor Patson Daka

Reports in Zambia have linked Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal with a move for RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka (Far Post).

It proved to be a class 2019/20 campaign for the Zambian, as he smashed 27 goals during his 45 appearances, with several European clubs now monitoring the situation.

In 2017, Daka won the Young African Player of the Year and his career has gone an upward curve ever since.

The lively frontman signed for Salzburg from Kafue Celtic who play in the Zambian top-flight back in 2017.

Liverpool raided Salzburg for Takumi Minamino and he showcased in Saturday’s Community Shield that this season could be the one he really gets going in the Premier League.

Daka might need a settling in period but he’d certainly provide the Reds with some competition for the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool did get a closer look at Daka’s qualities during a recent friendly; with the 21-year-old scoring twice in a 2-2 draw.

Arsenal have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as their main spearhead at the top of the attack, although Mikel Arteta’s ability at managing younger players might excite the Zambian.

The Premier League duo will face stern competition from the continent with Marseille, Lyon, Lille and RB Leipzig all interested in his services.

Arsenal defeated Liverpool on penalties at the weekend and it does look as though the Gunners can progress under the management of Arteta.

Any player in world football would surely relish the chance to play for Liverpool right now, with Jurgen Klopp one of the most exciting managers in world football.

It’s unsure at this stage what Salzburg will demand for Daka, although the man with 18 caps for his country will likely demand a sizeable fee.

Whoever lands the striker will get a player who is quick, intelligent and perhaps more crucially one who knows where the back of the net is.
