Arsenal and Everton are interested in signing Steven Nzonzi, with Foot Mercato reporting that his contract with Roma could be cancelled in the coming days.

Nzonzi appears to have been linked with a Premier League return in a number of windows in recent years. And despite already being out on loan at the moment, this month has proved to be no different.

According to Foot Mercato, Roma are set to discuss terminating the 32-year-old’s contract in the next few days.

He is currently on loan with Rennes. And Foot Mercato has reported that the Ligue 1 side are considering offering him a permanent contract.

However, Nzonzi is apparently not rushing into a decision. And according to the report, that is partially down to the other interest in him.

It is claimed that both Arsenal and Everton are monitoring his situation.

TBR View: Little not to like about signing Nzonzi on a free transfer

Admittedly, Nzonzi is not quite the player who previously established himself as one of arguably the best holding midfielders in Europe.

But if he is available on a free transfer, it is surely a no-brainer for the likes of Arsenal and Everton to make their move.

He is still playing at a good level. And it was just over two years ago that he was brought on in the World Cup final.

If he becomes a free agent therefore, the Gunners and Toffees simply cannot allow him to commit his future elsewhere without making their own offers.
