Report: Arsenal and Crystal Palace eye contract rebel Jordan Amavi

Arsenal and Crystal Palace are said to be monitoring the situation regarding Marseille defender Jordan Amavi, according to L’Equipe.

The ex-Aston Villa player is out of contract at Stade Velodrome during the summer and negotiations over an extension have stalled.

Typically a left-back, both the Eagles and the Gunners are credited with an interest in a player who could welcome a Premier League return.

There is also thought to be Serie A interest from Napoli in the 26-year-old who is currently nursing an injury.

Amavi has been in France since 2018 when he checked in from Aston Villa.

He has become a regular at the club, playing 119 times for the club and registering 10 assists.

The report claims that discussions over a new deal are at a standstill and the trio are eyeing free transfers in the summer.

It is also believed that despite his contract situation, none of the interested parties have made their move yet.

Interestingly Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has spoken this month about his team lacking left-sided full-backs.

Kieran Tierney is the only natural option, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles tried there in recent weeks.

With Amavi out of contract in the summer and earning just £34,000-a-week, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see interested parties try and nab a bargain this month.

TBR View: Amavi would be ideal for Arsenal

The 26-year-old could still improve and he’d arrive in England with a big point to prove.

His time at Villa Park didn’t always see him excel, although he did get 48 appearances to his name.

Amavi wouldn’t expect to be the first-choice left-back and he’d relish the chance to push Arsenal on towards more silverware.

He’d be a capable deputy for Tierney and a player who would keep the Scotland international on his toes each and every day.

Given Amavi’s contract situation, taking him to Arsenal looks like a no-brainer for Arteta.
