Arsenal are set for a transfer battle with Chelsea to land Wilfried Zaha, according to The Express.

Crystal Palace managed to hang on and keep Zaha in the summer window despite heavy interest. Arsenal were chasing the Ivory Coast winger but he ended up remaining at Selhurst Park. The Gunners signed his national team-mate Nicolas Pepe instead.

However, Roy Hodgson is bracing himself for another transfer battle in the upcoming transfer window. Arsenal are now joined by Chelsea in pursuit of Zaha.

Chelsea had a transfer ban in the summer but that was lifted last week. The Blues are free to sign players and Frank Lampard has already picked some targets. This report lists eight targets, including Zaha, Nathan Ake, Jadon Sancho and more.

This season, Zaha has scored twice and provided two assists. The 27-year-old remains Crystal Palace’s main attacking outlet and he fancied a move in the summer. He could join Arsenal and Chelsea – at the right price – in January.

TBR’s view

Zaha hasn’t quite hit the heights expected of him this season but that might be partly down to the summer transfer saga. He was clearly distracted as a move fell through.

Over the past few seasons, Zaha has proven that he is a lethal threat in the Premier League. He has improved significantly since his spell at Manchester United so maybe he is ready for the next step up.
