Report: Arsenal and Chelsea still keeping tabs on Lorenzo Insigne

According to a list of upcoming free-agents by the Independent, Arsenal and Chelsea are still monitoring the progress of Napoli forward, Lorenzo Insigne.

The Express reported just last week how Arsenal are in the mix to sign Insigne, with reports from Italy suggesting the Gunners are keen on the exciting forward.

Insigne was part of the Italian side that won Euro 2020. He has been with Napoli for all his career, and has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The Gunners will face competition from Chelsea, however, with the Independent claiming Thomas Tuchel is also a fan of the forward.

But for Arsenal, there’s plenty of reason to be excited should they manage to pull off a deal for the experienced ace.

Outstanding

There’s no doubt about the ability Insigne has. He’s made over 400 appearances for Napoli, with over 100 goals coming in that period.

It’s not just goals, however. Insigne has also provided 88 assists during his time in Naples, meaning he has a part in a goal just shy of every two games in Serie A. (Per Transfermarkt)

Arsenal fans love a creative player in attack. And those stats from Insigne certainly back up the notion he’d bring Gunners fans to life. Further, Jurgen Klopp has also praised Insigne in the past. Speaking in 2018, the Liverpool coach branded the Italian as ‘outstanding’.

“Insigne is an outstanding player. I’ve had to analyse him a few times. He’s still fantastic,” he told Italian media.

Insigne might be at the different end of the age spectrum when you look at the players Arsenal have been signing. He’s now 30, but sometimes, a player with experience can really help.

The Gunners, with so many young, exciting talents around, could well utilise someone like Insigne in their squad. Of course, there’s reason to be cautious given how Willian performed.

But Insigne is a proven, top quality forward. And if he arrives in North London on a free, then few will complain.
