Arsenal are one of the teams interested in Brazilian teenager Yan Couto, according to reports in Brazil.

Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal are both keen on signing Couto, who currently plays for Cortiba, Globo Esporte reports. German side Bayer Leverkusen are trying to steal a march on Arsenal by launching an official bid.

The Bundesliga outfit have reportedly made a bid of around £4.2m for the youngster. The report adds that several big European clubs want to lure Couto from South America and Arsenal are among the admirers.

Arsenal signed Gabriel Martinelli in the summer and they could return to Brazil for another wonderkid. Couto recently played for Brazil U17s and caught the eye as they won the tournament.

Scouts were impressed with the 17-year-old, who showcased his ability to be a modern-day full-back. Arsenal could look to enter a new era with some Brazilian youngsters.

TBR’s view

Arsenal are obviously managerless at the moment but this should not stop the recruitment drive. The North London side have enjoyed great success with Martinelli and Couto could be the next Brazilian starlet.

With David Luiz also at the club, Couto should have no problems settling in. He has the potential to become a future star at The Emirates.
