Report: Arsenal and Aston Villa want to sign Marcus Thuram

According to Milan Live, Arsenal and Aston Villa are battling a number of European sides to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram.

Old Gunners boss Unai Emery returned to the Premier League and is now at the helm at Villa. He’d love nothing more than to get one over Arsenal, who sacked him just a few months after he led them to the Europa League final.

His first opportunity to inflict some pain on the Gunners could come in the January transfer window.

Arsenal and Aston Villa want to sign Marcus Thuram

Thuram has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs over the last few years, but a move just hasn’t materialised for him. He has had to stay at Gladbach, but he could soon get his wish.

The 25-year-old has entered the final year of his contract. He’ll be available on a free transfer next summer, but the January transfer window will be the Bundesliga club’s last opportunity to make some money by selling him.

That’s probably why a number of clubs are said to be interested in Thuram, who is the son of France legend and World Cup winner Lilian Thuram.

The report claims that along with Arsenal and Aston Villa, the likes of Crystal Palace, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are all keeping an eye on the talented centre-forward.

Thuram has played 16 times for Gladbach in all competitions this season and has directly been involved in 16 goals (12 goals and four assists). That is a sensational return for a forward playing at a club that finished 10th last season.

Arsene Wenger thinks he’s like Thierry Henry

Thuram has caught many people’s eye over the years – including Arsene Wenger’s.

The legendary Frenchman, who made Thierry Henry the player he eventually became, knows a thing or two about talented strikers. He has watched Thuram on numerous occasions, and he believes that the Monchengladbach star is similar to Arsenal’s record goalscorer.

Wenger told Der Spiegel two years ago: “Thierry Henry had the timing of the smartest footballers. He was also very strong physically, and technically he could do everything.

“In fact, there’s a player in the Bundesliga who reminds me of him – Marcus Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach.”
