According to FourFourTwo, Arsenal are among a number of clubs monitoring the situation of Benfica and Uruguay striker, Darwin Nunez.

Nunez, 21, has got off to a flying start since moving to Benfica for around £22m in the summer from Almeria. The forward has scored five times this season, with four of those goals coming in just three Europa League games.

However, FourFourTwo claims that while Nunez is only into the first six months of a contract until 2025, a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Real Madrid are keen on signing him.

The Uruguayan has been compared to fellow countryman Edinson Cavani in the past and was linked with a move to England in the summer, with Brighton and Sheffield United among those to miss out.

With January just four weeks away, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is desperately looking to bolster his creativity and attacking options.

Nunez, then, could well be on the radar, although any transfer would require a big fee, given Benfica’s recent purchase.

Some strikers you can tell just have it and Nunez certainly looks like being one of them. His goalscoring record is already excellent and he’s also adept at bringing others into play, as his six assists this season show.

Nunez will be hot property come next summer you’d think. January seems a bit too ambitious for any buyers, barring a mammoth bid coming in.

Arsenal are right to be keeping tabs on Nunez but if the likes of Madrid come calling, they’ll more than likely miss out.
