Report: Arsenal ace Saliba set to join Marseille on loan
William Saliba is set to join Marseille on a season-long loan deal, according to David Ornstein.
It brings an end to the speculation surrounding the youngster, who has been linked with a summer exit.
Arsenal have been chasing the signing of Ben White, who is reportedly close to sealing a move to the Emirates Stadium. As a result, it put question marks over the future of Saliba.
Reports claimed the 20-year-old could even be sold in a permanent transfer. However, Ornstein has said that he still has a long-term future in north London.
Arsenal are keen on getting the centre-half playing for a full season.
Saliba is set to join Matteo Guendouzi, who is joining Marseille for £13m.
TBR View: Saliba loan delaying the inevitable exit from Arsenal
The upcoming season will bring up the start of the centre-half’s third year in N5.
And to be frank, there are more questions than answers for many supporters.
It’s clear that the young ace isn’t comfortable at the Emirates Stadium. Why else would he spend each of his first three years at the club away from the first team?
Saliba came to Arsenal with a massive reputation. One of his former coaches even compared him to Virgil van Dijk and Raphael Varane.
On the face of it, he’s far from convinced the coaches at Arsenal, who think he needs more time to develop as a defender.
But, when you join as such a highly-rated youngster, you’d almost expect an instant impact.
The loan of Saliba seems to be delaying an inevitable permanent exit from Arsenal. It’s hard to see a way back into the team when he returns, especially if White joins from Brighton.
