Report: Antonio Conte wants Tottenham to sign £35m centre back and Bastoni to transform their defence

Antonio Conte wants both Alessandro Bastoni and Giorgio Scalvini to transform his Tottenham defence if he stays.

Some Spurs fans might have hoped Conte’s future would get sorted during the World Cup but that has not proved to be the case.

Key to getting Conte to sign a new deal will be assurances he will be backed in the transfer market and Inter Live report he feels the defence needs improving.

Conte chased Bastoni in the summer but he elected to stay with Inter Milan, who of course the Italian used to manage.

Conte wants both Bastoni and Scalvini

Spurs went and got Clement Lenglet on loan but that is clearly only a temporary solution and the situation needs revisiting in the summer.

But the report says that even if Spurs get Bastoni, who would cost around £48 million, Conte wants them to go for another defender.

They claim Giorgio Scalvini is also a key target for Spurs, and Conte would want Spurs to stump up £35 million to get the Italian.

The report says that would be a double blow for Inter, losing Bastoni and also missing out on Scalvini who would be a target to replace him.

Whether Spurs will commit to backing Conte to the tune of two big central defensive investments remains to be seen, and talks over his new deal are ongoing.

Conte is clearly ambitious and wants Spurs to match that drive and determination to not only challenge for the top four, but win trophies and battle the very best teams in the country.
