Report: Antonio Conte doesn't want 27-year-old 'top' player at Tottenham next season
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly decided not to go ahead with the option to buy Pierluigi Gollini.
According to Calciomercato, Spurs will let the on-loan goalkeeper return to parent club Atalanta in summer.
Gollini became the first signing of the Nuno Espirito Santo era at Tottenham last summer.
7 Transfers That Were TERRIBLE For Everyone Involved
Spurs landed the 27-year-old on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for around £13m.
However, the Italian has struggled for game time, with just 10 appearances to his name this term.
In addition, Gollini hasn’t played a single minute in the Premier League for Tottenham.
And several months ago, The Athletic claimed that some at Spurs had concerns over Gollini’s fitness.
Antonio Conte is expected to look elsewhere for a keeper to provide competition for Hugo Lloris.
The likelihood is that Gollini will be plying his trade in Serie A next season.
According to Calciomercato, both Lazio and Fiorentina are now eyeing the shot-stopper.
Lazio currently sit in fifth place in Serie A at present as they look to book a spot in the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are seventh, two points behind Jose Mourinho’s sixth-placed Roma outfit.
“He’s a top man”
Despite Gollini’s uncertain future at N17, Lloris sung the Italian’s praises earlier this season.
“He’s a top man, top man,” he told Tottenham’s Twitch channel.
“He’s bringing every day his energy, his positive energy, his freshness – he’s a great teammate to be honest.
“And we enjoy working together, also with Brandon (Austin).
“We try to push each other. That’s fantastic when you have this feeling with your teammate.
“It’s been the case many times in my Spurs career with Michel Vorm, Paulo Gazzaniga, with Brad Friedel, there’s been so many, many keepers.
“And when you work in that condition, it’s just amazing.”
