The Scottish Express claim Ange Postecoglou is about to hand Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain a new contract – despite his lack of game time.

Bain, 30, still has 18 months remaining on his current Celtic deal and is firmly planted as Celtic’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Joe Hart.

Greece international Vasilis Barkas is closing in on a January exit and a possible return to his home country. Keeping Bain, then, is important.

Postecoglou is keen to tie down the future of his Celtic players. He has handed contracts to Greg Taylor, Callum McGregor and Anthony Ralston.

A fourth Scottish star could now sign a new Celtic deal in the form of Bain – with Postecoglou said to have been impressed with him behind the scenes.

Bain to get Celtic contract: Why it is just as important as others

It is crucial that Bain signs a new Celtic deal. Hart, of course, has made a fantastic start to life in Glasgow since moving north from Tottenham.

Indeed, the 75-time England international is up there with Postecoglou’s best summer signings – along with Jota, Kyogo and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

But Bain remains a crucial part of the Celtic side. His stats in a Celtic shirt should not go overlooked – keeping 37 clean sheets in 72 appearances.

What makes it crucial, is that Bain is clearly happy to sit on the bench and cover Hart. He is a top goalkeeper, but happy to be second choice.

That makes him ideal for Celtic, the perfect number two. It is important that Postecoglou sorts out his future, with 18 months left to run on his deal.
