Italian website Area Napoli have claimed that Marseille and Andre Villas-Boas are close to completing a deal to sign Pervis Estupinan from Watford, amid reports that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are interested.
Estupinan, 22, joined Watford from Udinese in the summer of 2017 as the Pozzo connection between the two clubs struck again. The Ecuador international is yet to play for Watford, but has been on loan three times.
He has played for Almeria, Mallorca and then this season, Osasuna. It is his form for the latter that has caught admirers – clocking up 37 appearances and having a hand in seven goals from the left side of the defence.
Spanish newspaper Sport have claimed that Tottenham and Manchester United both made enquiries in May to land the left-footer from Watford. But the latest reports claim Marseille and Villas-Boas are to win the race.
TBR’s view – Tottenham need a left-back, desperately
Estupinan could be the ideal cover for Ben Davies. Young, quick and more than willing to get forward, Estupinan can play as a defensive left-back, a wing-back or even as a left-winger.
Plenty of flair, skill and an eye for goal, he would be the perfect back-up. The issue is, whether Spurs need to bring in a left-back that is better than Davies altogether. That is down to Jose Mourinho, ahead of the summer window.
