Report: Anderlecht declare interest in Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius

Loris Karius has been offered a Liverpool escape route by Belgian giants Anderlecht, according to Turkish outlet Fotospor.

The German goalkeeper is currently on loan with Besiktas but due to Financial Fair Play, the Turkish outfit seem unlikely to make his move permanent in the summer.

That could leave Karius in limbo with his Liverpool career seemingly over.

He hasn’t played for the Reds since the Champions League Final in 2018 when he gifted Real Madrid two goals in a 3-1 defeat.

Liverpool value the goalkeeper at £7.5 million and Anderlecht are now keen to add him to their ranks ahead of next season.

The Belgian club are struggling this season and currently languish in eighth place in the league.

Having conceded 29 goals in 28 league games they will hope to bolster their defence in the summer and that could lead them to a new goalkeeper and Karius.

Liverpool have Alisson as their first-choice stopper, whilst Adrian makes a more than capable deputy.

He’d be the third choice at very best if he were to return to Anfield and leaving looks like the only option for the 26-year-old.

Inconsistent

The goalkeeper signed for Liverpool for £4.7 million from Mainz in 2016 and has played 49 times for the Reds.

He has struggled big style for consistency and that curtailed any aspirations he had of being a long-term number one.

Jurgen Klopp was keen to land a new stopper and was right to sign the world-class custodian his team craved.

A move to Anderlecht could see the £25,000-a-week Karius follow Simon Mignolet to Belgium. He signed for Club Brugge in the summer and has been busy reviving his career during 2019/20.

Karius has talent but Liverpool just isn’t right for his confidence. There are too many bad memories of poor form around Anfield and, as a result, leaving looks like the only option.
