The jury may be out on whether Tottenham Hotspur landed themselves a bargain signing Richarlison for an initial £50 million, but his opening performance at the World Cup has certainly shown why Spurs were willing to make him one of the most expensive buys in their history.
Richarlison stole the show as Brazil beat Serbia 2-0. The 25-year-old scored both of Selecao’s goals, with his second an early contender for goal of the tournament as he produced a brilliant bicycle kick.

Obviously, Tottenham fans have only seen glimpses of what Richarlison is capable of. He is yet to open his account in the Premier League for Antonio Conte’s men.
Real Madrid asked about Richarlison
But his talent is evident. And Sport has now shed light on Real Madrid’s interest in the forward one year before he ended up in North London.

It is claimed that Carlo Ancelotti told Los Blancos’ hierarchy that he wanted the forward following his move from Everton.
However, Sport claims that the Toffees told Real that Richarlison would cost £86 million (€100 million). With that, Ancelotti’s men decided to stick with Luka Jovic.
One year later and Tottenham managed to do which may ultimately cost them £60 million.
Those figures highlight what a coup it could be for Spurs to sign Richarlison. He is a ‘fantastic‘ talent. Everton would not have stayed up without him last season.
And he has produced some big moments for Tottenham, even without a consistent run in the side.
He was Brazil’s hero in their opening game. And he will be absolutely desperate to hold onto his place in the side over the remaining days of the tournament.
Should he manage it, Conte will surely be willing to use him a little more in that central striker role going forward.
