Report: Alex Mowatt set for West Brom medical
West Brom are closing in on their first signing of the summer, with the Express and Star reporting that Alex Mowatt is set to undergo a medical this week.
The Baggies are gearing up for their first campaign under Valerien Ismael. And he looks set to bring a familiar face with him to the Hawthorns.
According to the Express and Star, Mowatt was wanted by a number of Championship sides this summer. Unsurprisingly, Barnsley were also keen to keep him.
However, his contract has now expired at Oakwell. And he now looks set to follow Ismael to West Brom.
The report claims that he will undergo a medical this week.
Coup for West Brom to land Mowatt as medical looms
Mowatt has been an outstanding talent in the Championship for a long time. The 26-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided 27 assists during his time in the second tier.
He initially burst onto the scene while at Leeds. And after losing his way somewhat in the latter stages of his Elland Road spell, he has got his career back on track at Barnsley.
If Ismael is planning to implement the same unique style at West Brom, Mowatt is an ideal signing.
He was so important to Barnsley’s fortunes as they reached the Championship play-offs last season.
And it should be no surprise if he quickly establishes himself as a key man as West Brom look to seal promotion at the first attempt.
